Thursday April 30th, 2009

It is 1:25am and I am just getting to a point that I can get an update posted. Ryan has been is severe pain in his abdomen and neck. Our hospice nurse had to make a return trip to help Ryan with his pain. Ryan is very uncomfortable at the moment and we are trying to find a position that will allow him to rest and not be in pain.

These posts are very hard because I want to keep you updated, and give enough detail for prayer requests, but not every little detail we face.

Thank you for all of your support.

The one blessing we can be sure of is there is a God who created us after His own and He loves us more than we can love ourselves. We may not understand things of this earth, but someday His glory will be fully revealed. We encourage you all to reach out to Him as we do. His shoulders are broad and faith in Him is comfort unlike any other.

Julie Walker said... prayer is that you are lifted up from this pain...taken to a new plateau, and give a new threshold where your pain will be mitigated...Brad...your witness of strength, support and unyielding love for your son has proven to be one of THE greatest inspirations that I have ever received. SO many people are praying for Ryan, for you and for Susan....God sees the tapestry of Ryan's life from His perspective...He sees the entire picture. We, on earth, only see the backside....stitches of color dotted with knots. We rarely see the "right" side of the picture. But God does...and He knows what stitches, what colors, what knots have to happen in order to make it complete. Continue to walk in faith and hope. God's work is perfect....His timing is perfect. Thank-you for continuing to inspire so many. Hugs! Julie

God gives out only as much as each of us is capable of handling. Your post is a testament of the amazing strength that Ryan and the rest of your family have.

Christ has risen! and with his triumph over death has given us mortals a chance for everlasting life. Stay strong in your faith of God, and when he does call us, remember that we pass not from life to death, but from life to life, where there is no pain, sorrow, or suffering. May the blessings and mercy of God be with you all.

Dear Ryan and family,
I was just recently introduced to your courageous spirit via my nephew - Nick Raitt's blogspot. I appreciate your postings being sent to my email as they help me say a prayer for Ryan in real time. After reading today's posting I just had to write to you. Over fifteen years ago, friends shared with me many God-incidences they experienced with their adult son who battled cancer. He too was very uncomfortable during his last days on earth. One time, his parents went into his room first and prayed that God would comfort him so that he could get some much needed rest. Their son was in his room only a short time when he emerged stating "I will never get any sleep with all those people in there trying to comfort me". May God send "a few" of His angels to comfort Ryan. He also shared with his parents over lunch one day - "Mom, dad, it is like we are having lunch together here on earth and we'll see each other for dinner in heaven". I give God praise and thanks that we will have an eternity to fellowship in heaven with the saints who walk here on earth - Ryan is one of those saints I hope to have dinner with. God bless everyone who has been woven into the fabric of Ryan Salmons life. In Christ's love, Nick Raitt's aunt.

I have been praying for a miracle for Ryan everyday for months. Every night before I go to bed if I am to tired to do anything else I make sure to pray for Ryan. I have even fell asleep praying. I am so glad I got a chance to be in Ryan's life and be able to be his friend. He has changed my life and I know other people feel the same. Nobody else would have been able to fight as long as Ryan has. He is a true worrier! Brad and Susan, getting to know you guys has been a blessing also. I will continue to pray daily for Ryan. And I am always here for you guys!

If you read this, please know that Jesus loves you. Everything we see around us is temporary but our reward is in Heaven. Even though your tired and in pain, Jesus is using you to reach others. How many people will change their life by watching you and seeing your faith in difficult times? One day you will find out. Be at peace my friend. 2 Timothy 4:6-8

I've just heard the news from Trey Martens' family. Trey and Ryan are together riding in Ryan's Corvette. I can see them smiling and laughing. I will forever remember Ryan and the closeness of his family. You are in my prayers. Remember that you are loved by family, friends, and strangers because of Ryan. God Bless you in this horrible but yet glorious time. As was told at Trey's funeral - how many times did you say you would gladly trade places with the one who is suffering - now you have. He is no longer suffering but you are. You are not alone. God is with you and so is Ryan.

I can't express the sorrow I feel for someone I've never met but yet has had such a profound impact on my life. Peace be with you and your family.

May you rest in peace. May all of us remember your strength and love. I now pray for your family and friends and they find comfort in the days to come

When I must leave you
For a little while,
Please do not grieve
And shed wild tears
And hug your sorrow to you
Through the years,
But start out bravely
With a smile.

And for my sake
And in my name,
Live on and do
All the things the same.
Feed not your loneliness
On empty days,
But fill each waking hour
In useful ways.

Reach out your hand in comfort
And in cheer,
And I, in turn, will comfort you
And hold you near.
And never, never
Be afraid to die,
For I am waiting for you
In the sky.

I learned of your story only recently. I do not want to express my sorrow of your passing, but rather make note that you are an inspiration and a hero. Many people do not realize just how good they have things. You lived life every day until your last, making the most of it and always with a smile.

You are a hero among heroes.
