Trey Martens, January 14th, 2009

Trey Martens

At Children's Hospital, along side Ryan, Trey Martens fought cancer for a year. He was the first child we got to know on J5. He and his family spent the first 60 days in the room beside Ryan. After a year long battle, Trey Martens, 9 years old, passed away last night.

Please keep Wes, Shawna and Mal in your prayers. Trey, you will be missed.

Ryan and family:
I was saddened to read today of the loss of your friend Trey. I never met him and didn't know him except through your website, but I know he was a special kid based on all you have written about him. As much as you will miss him, always remember the good things about him and what you learned from him during his time with you. Those are the things that will keep him alive forever for all who cared for him. As he is passing from this life to a better one, I'm sure he is smiling down on you for the friendship you shared. Best wishes to you as well Ryan as I know you have a tough couple of weeks ahead of you. Take care and God Bless.

Dear Salmons family,
I know the loss of sweet, little Trey was difficult for your family because it was very difficult for my family also and we had only known Trey for a few short months. In that short time he touched my heart deeply...there was just something special about Trey. The day my husband and I met him we also met Margaret and Carlos in the hallway of Childrens. I feel so blessed that through Trey I was able to meet them and also find out about Ryan. Ryan, I have kept you in my prayers since and I will continue to do so. Even though we haven't met I feel I know how special you are because of your grandparents...they are special too. I feel that God puts certain people in our lives for a reason and although I don't know why he placed Trey in my life I am happy that He did because of the friendship we now have with your grandparents. The morning after little Trey passed away it was Margaret who called me and said "we have lost little Trey" and of course we shared a few tears on the phone. I am sure that Trey touched all of our lives but I also feel that the Salmons' family made a big impact on his life as well as the rest of the Martens family! Keep all your memories of him in your heart and he will aways be with you. God Bless You!
